Usually a raised structure or place often used figuratively to describe a thing given great or undue precedence or value. Originating in ancient times as a place of sacrifice to the gods, today a home altar gives us an opportunity to pause and reflect on our modern fragmented lives. By placing an object upon it, we give value to the meaning behind that object and are reminded of its value every time we pass by and stop for a moment throughout the course of our day.
